For Eight Years I’ve been leading this writing retreat to Orvieto, Italy.  A highlight of my year, Orvieto is an ancient Umbrian hilltown with a rich history.  There is so much to see and explore in this walled city, from churches to museums, to Etruscan and Roman ruins.  Orvieto is small enough to feel familiar, and large enough to offer endless dining, sightseeing, and nature experiences.

Join me in October for this Devotion to Writing retreat.  There are a limited number of spaces for this offering.  We will meet daily for a morning workshop each day, followed by lunch in town and then free time to get to know Orvieto.  Shop, take a walk, visit a museum, get gelato, you’ll have ample time to find your inspiration.  In the evening, we will reconvene for a participant’s reading then go to a wonderful dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in town.

If you’re looking to connect with your writing, generate new materials, and an authentic Italian experience, this is your opportunity.

What’s included:

5-day Devotion to Writing writing intensive

Daily 3-hour workshop with Justen Ahren

Wine and appetizer reception

Evening readings

Hotel accommodation in Orvieto for 6 nights

Daily breakfast

Go deeper in your work and “love your little corner of the world,” Sustain your writing/creative life, realize that process IS everything, discover the joy and fulfillment that comes from attending to your writing, be part of a supportive writing community, feel the creative abundance within you.

Workshop does not include airfare and other travel expenses,     meals other than breakfast, excursions.

How to get to Orvieto: from Rome or Florence, Orvieto is only 1.5 hours away by train, a little less by car.  There is a train from Rome’s Fiumicino airport, changing once in Rome or in Orte.  Trains stopping in Orvieto depart every couple of hours.

From Florence, take the bus from the airport to the central train station.  Trains to Orvieto depart every couple of hours.

From the Orvieto train station take the funicular or a taxi to the hotel. A taxi will bring you to the door, while it is a 15 minute walk through the beautiful cobblestone streets from the top of the funicular.
